Many people want to know how a gas hot water system works.
A gas burner underneath the storage tank heats the water.
Usually there’s a pilot flame that is permanently on that ignites the main burner when required.
When the hot water is used from the top, cold water comes in at the bottom and is gradually heated up.
You can adjust the gas hot water as desired using an adjustable thermostat.
When cold water comes into the tank and the water drops below the thermostat level, the pilot flame kicks into gear so that the water remains at a constant temperature.
Gas hot water systems come in a variety of sizes to suit all needs as there no point heating water you don’t need because it will cost more to run. So you can choose from a 90 litre tank to 300 litre.
Sometimes units have a flue system circulates the hot gases around the outside of the tank to help increase efficiency and reduce running costs.
There are many brands to choose from so go with a high star rating for efficiency as this is good for the hip pocket and also the environment as less green house gases are emitted.
